With the wind beginning to die off, and the water getting warmer, what more do you want than to jump in and be surrounded by nature?
Divers, snorkelers, and glassbottom boaters all enjoyed the warm weather and the cool water today on the Eastern side of the island. Snorkelers found a massive Loggerhead turtle to be their guide and followed him along over the coral peaks and gullies for a drift snorkel. He showed them a small Black-tip reef shark, a tiny Moray eel, and a little Green Turtle. Who better to be your guide than a turtle?
Morning Birdwatchers found the Sooty Oyster catchers lazing around at the southern end of the airstrip and the Tropic Bird chick all alone, and having a nap. White and Grey Egrets were spotted way out in the bird rookery area, and a lone Frigate swooped in and out of the seagulls trying to make their way back to shore.
Guests gathered for a Behind the Scenes Tour in the afternoon, to be shown how the resort runs, how we store and use our power and how the desalination and sewerage treatment plants work. After a nice walk, and heaps of questions later, guests were satisfied with the eco-friendly running of the island.
Fish Feeding found “Nigel” our Silver Drummer, and the Golden-lined Rabbit fish back once more enjoying the higher tide to get to the fish pool. A diamond scaled mullet jumped out of the water, trying to remove a Remora fish that was stuck to its side.
An awesome event occurred in the evening. THE FIRST BRIDLED TERN!! He was standing next to the barbeque on the western dining room deck, tap-dancing away and looking up at its audience with beady, questioning eyes. And so marks the beginning of bird season. We’re looking forward to noisy days and nights and birds absolutely everywhere. (And lots of poo) WOOHOO!!
Two trivia teams battled it out for a free Glssbottom Boat Ride, with the Roberts family or Team Cumree, taking the cake. Congratulations to Team Dory though, playing very well with all the competitors having only arrived today! Well done!
