A little piece of the world where you can truely relax
A couple of years ago
I saw a TV series here in New Zealand hosted by Judy Bailey (NZ TV Presenter)
on her travels around Australia and recall seeing the episode when she stayed
on Lady Elliot Island and said to myself now that's somewhere I love to visit.
Anyway I consequently forgot about it. Then last year I was invited to a
cousins wedding in Brisbane in Feb 13 and decided I would go and use the
opportunity to have a holiday to de-stress at the same time.
I asked around and
someone suggested LEI. Anyway Googled it - found the website and realised it
was the Island I had seen on TV about 12 months prior. So I booked a 5 night
trip. WELL it was the best money I have ever spent on a holiday. On arrival I
was greeted by a young lady called Emma, she was so helpful and friendly and I
instantly felt at ease and relaxed. The snorkeling in the lagoon was the best
and every day I had fun playing with the turtles and discovering different fish
species. The turtles were such cool dudes and so friendly they have a very
calming effect on you - FANTASTIC. I really wanted to see the Manta's and the
day I went out on the glass bottom boat we weren't that lucky and didn't see
one. Everyday after that I booked on the Snorkel Safari to give it another go
but unfortunately because it was so quiet on the Island it keep being cancelled
due to not enough numbers. Also because I was on my own I didn't want to go out
snorkeling on that side of the Island by myself so had to wait and go with a
group. FINALLY on my last day I managed to get out were there would be Manta's
and YES we were in luck - AWESOME - saw 4 that day and swimming only a couple
of metres away from them, it was just out of this world. Also so saw a couple
of sharks that were only metres away, believe it or not I was not afraid.
Thanks to Emma our guide, my last 2 hours spent on LEI were the best. I got on
the plane that afternoon with the biggest smile and felt so calm and relaxed -
WONDERFUL. I just can't wait to get back to LEI and swim with my friends the
turtles and Manta's and hopefully go in the winter months when the Whales are
there. Just love it - when I am in that beautiful warm water with those
wonderful creatures I forget about everything it is so peaceful.
I would like
to say a big thanks to all the staff and management at Lady Elliot Island for a
wonderful stay and a Special Thanks to Emma for looking after me so well.
