A wicked grin shot up on my face as I realised what I was about to accomplish. With no hesitations and no regrets it was something I was eager to do, take a leap of faith into the dark but slightly turbid water that lay just beneath my feet. As I steadied myself for the jump nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see, or what I was about to feel. 'Splash' my presence disturbed the water as ripples ran far around me and bubbles flew to the surface as if gravity had reversed. As I sank to the bottom the weight slowly lifted from around my hips, this being the first time I had gone diving I felt restricted of air mainly caused by the adrenalin that ran through my veins. As my eyes slowly opened my thoughts froze as I looked far beyond where I was suspended, only just above the sharp coral that lay jagged below me. Starting my under water journey with triumph and faith I slowly drifted from my group but soon enough heard the tapping of hard plas tic against an unforgiving metal, I changed my point of focus now staring at my instructor. He pointed to something far in the distance, it moved so slowly and with grace that I presumed it had endless time. As it got closer into view my heart skipped a beat at how big and amazing this green turtle truly was. It steadied its self and came in for a rub; something I had never experienced and never thought I would at the tender age of 13. My hand reached out, my fingertips shrivelled, as I settled the first rub the turtle seemed impressed but soon enough it was far in the distance once again. A further 20mins passed in my wonderful experience and I found myself safe and well on the shoreline with a memory I would never forget and continue to tell to all my family and friends.
I would like to thank Chris my dive instructor for enabling me to have this chance and experience of a Discover Dive and I'm looking forward to returning to get my Open Diver certificate next year.
