The first Green Turtle tracks for the season were spotted on the 28th October 2014. Hopefully this means another bumper season for our Lady Elliot Island Turtles. Nesting season also means mating season and there has been a lot of amorous turtles in the water!

The Red-Tailed Tropicbirds are back and nesting on Lady Elliot Island. The nests now host one baby Tropicbird and one egg. We are very fortunate to have several pairs of the rare species that nest on Lady Elliot. These beautiful birds only come to land to nest. Our Activities staff are keeping a close eye on the little chicks waiting for them to take their first flight!

Foto Frenzy is fast approaching! From the 22nd - 27th February 2015. Join Darren Jew and Sean Scott on Lady Elliot Island for a week of photography, workshops, snorkelling, diving and learning. This season will allow for fantastic photo opportunities with Green and Loggerhead turtles nesting and hatching during this time.

Greg Sullavan from Canon Australia captured this beautiful Green Turtle in the Lady Elliot Island Lagoon at the last Foto Frenzy. Why not come along and learn from the best in the business with Canon representatives joining us for the workshop. Participants will get the opportunity to use specialised Canon equipment including cameras, housings and lenses, learn tricks of the trade and print your images on Canons specially provided printer. The workshop will end with an open gallery exhibition where participants have the opportunity to win prizes and showcase their photographs. So immerse yourself in photography on the Southern Great Barrier Reef and join us for a Foto Frenzy on Lady Elliot Island.

The annual Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) Show is being held in Las Vegas, USA from the 19th – 22nd November 2014. Kym and Ales from the Lady Elliot Dive Shop will be attending the event. The show attracts more than 9,000 attendees and features over 600 leading manufacturers, destinations, wholesalers and service providers all dedicated to diving, watersports and travel.

Recently there have been numerous sightings of what we believe to be ‘False Killer Whales’ off Lady Elliot Island. These sightings are very out of the ordinary on Lady Elliot. According to our records there have never previously been any sightings of False Killer Whales in the waters surrounding Lady Elliot Island. Each of these interactions with the species have been amazing and we are more than happy for them to come and visit Lady Elliot Island on a more regular basis. Photo by Chris Garraway.
