A Bloggers Island Experience

Lady Elliot has welcomed a number of travel bloggers to the Island over the years. This month we were privileged to host Pat Flynn and his family from the USA for a Day Tour to showcase the natural wonders of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. For those not aware, Pat Flynn is a global leader in entrepreneurship, digital marketing and lifestyle business.

Pat and his family spent the day with our Managing Director, Peter Gash. They explored the Island and Peter showcased the innovations in sustainable practices that Lady Elliot Island has accomplished. They enjoyed a morning snorkel and an educational talk for the kids before returning to the Gold Coast with a birds eye view of the beautiful Southern Queensland coastline and beaches.

Climate Action for Business

We are very happy to announce that Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort has been awarded ‘BUSINESS’ in the Ecotourism Australia’s Climate Action certification program. Climate Action Business is awarded to businesses that have undertaken a set of adaption and emissions reduction actions but are not necessarily measuring their carbon footprint.

We are currently working on providing our guests with the option to carbon offset their flights to/from Lady Elliot Island.

Queensland Tourism Awards

Lady Elliot Island has once again entered the Queensland Tourism Awards, lets hope it’s a case of third time lucky! We have entered the ‘Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism’. We took out the Silver in 2013 and were Finalist in 2012.

We have also entered the ‘Earth Changers’ category of the World Legacy Awards. These are a new initiative of the National Geographic Society – Fingers crossed!

Fuel Reduction

Ticking yet another goal off our list - On the 30th July 2014 Lady Elliot Island burned less than 100 litres of fuel for the first time since the introduction of our Solar Hybrid Power Station. This is an enormous reduction compared to what our fuel burn used to be when we took over the resort in 2005. Back then the average daily consumption was 550 litres. This just proves that with persistence, determination and teamwork our tiny little gem of an Island can truly make a difference. Well done to Laurie Marsden and all of the Lady Elliot Island team!

Seal of a time!

Recently members of the Down Under Sports Tournament visited Lady Elliot Island and to their surprise found this little guy sitting perched on a rock in the Lagoon! We believe it is a juvenile Fur Seal. He's a bit far from home, but he's more than welcome to enjoy a break at Lady Elliot.

Photo Competition

The July ‘Whatever’ Photo Competition had some incredible entries, there were images ranging from white-capped noddies, sunsets, sunrises, turtles, manta rays and artistic approaches to the Great Barrier Reef.

We would like to congratulate the July winner ‘Chris Darcy’ with his inquisitive turtle shot. He took out the competition with 55 ‘likes’ on Facebook.

If you would like to enter the September photo competition email your photo to [email protected] by the 23rd September 2014.
