Foto Frenzy 2016 & Expression of Interest 2017

Foto Frenzy 2016 (25th April – 1st May) was once again a huge success, we had 40 participants ranging from beginner to experienced photographers with both divers and snorkelers. This was the third year that Lady Elliot Island hosted the Foto Frenzy event with Darren Jew, Sean Scott, QLD Museum Photographer Gary Cranitch, Greg Sullavan, Colin Baker and Anthony Portis from The Canon Collective Team.

Based on the concept of ‘Capture to Print’ the five days of shooting opportunities was jam-packed with review sessions, group presentations and break outs which culminated in a print exhibition of participants work on the final night.

The SCUBA divers joined Darren Jew for special photography-focused dives while the snorkelers joined Sean Scott in the Lagoon for our Adventure Snorkels. Our land loving shooters also had the opportunity to capture amazing photographs with the changing colours of the Island and the lagoon throughout the day.

After seeing all the ‪#‎FotoFrenzyLEI2016‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ photos we’re sure you wondering about Foto Frenzy 2017!

If you are interested in participating in Foto Frenzy 2017, please sign up to Canon Australia’s ‘Expression of Interest’ list to be the first in line to find out all the information on the workshop and when to book!

Whale Season

Guess what? It’s that time of year again! We love it when the majestic Humpback Whales grace our waters off Lady Elliot Island.

Keep an eye out for the Humpback Whales on their annual migration during the scenic flight to/from Lady Elliot Island. If you’re lucky you might also see them from the glass bottom boat on the Island or hear the beautiful whale song underwater.

Resort Improvements

There has been a lot of action on the Island over the past couple of months in regards to renovations and maintenance. Some of these tasks include;

A prototype for a bigger and better Eco Cabin which can now comfortably sleep 5 adults.

- Improvements on the Desalination System which is now making 44 litres per minute where it used to be 24 litres per minute.

- The purchase of a new wood chipper for the re vegetation program to transition the forest back to its original forest from the 1860’s

- Continued repairs and maintenance to our Heritage Listed Lighthouse
A new roof on the education centre and new verandas on multiple units

- OSCA (On Site Composting Apparatus)

- First that we know of Solar Switch that measures available solar irradiation to turn off or on certain power driven items to minimise the burden on the generators and batteries which further improves our energy consumption.
