The white and red lighthouse was pre-made in England and shipped to the Island in pieces in 1873. It was the first lighthouse in Australia with a timber frame and weatherproof cast iron external cladding. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1995 when a fully automated solar powered light tower was built. Click here if you would like to read more about the fascinating history of Lady Elliot Island. SEAIR LAUNCHES FIRST OUTBACK ADVENTURE TOURLady Elliot Island’s sister company, Seair Pacific, launched its first tour to visit central Australia this month. 9 guests experienced the magic of Outback Australia, visiting Birdsville, Lake Eyre, Innamincka and Charlotte Plains Station. With the current drought in QLD and NSW, the transition to the Diamantina, Goyder Lagoon and Warburton Creek (which flow into Lake Eyre) was remarkable – green and yellow life in the middle of a barren landscape. Lake Eyre remains with a trickle of water still flowing into it from the Warburton Creek. Two tours for 2018 remain, both with limited places remaining – September 22nd and October 5th. See seairpacific.com.au/touring for more information or call reservations on 07 5599 4509.
