SEASONS GREETINGS

On behalf of Peter Gash and the team at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for your incredible support of our precious little island, we wouldn't be where we are today without you. Please take care and stay safe

CORAL SPAWNING

The coral spawning caught us by surprise this year, it was the first time in memory that we have experienced spawning in November... and in the middle of the day! Normally, the reef begins to spawn 3-4 days after the full moon in November and December, when the water temperature is just right. Billions of eggs are released into the water and the reproductive process of the world’s largest coral ecosystem comes to life. Some of our guests were lucky enough to witness this amazing natural phenomena in the lagoon in front of the resort.

TURTLE SEASON 2018/19

Green and Loggerhead turtles come ashore on Lady Elliot Island between November and March to nest and lay their eggs. This normally occurs after dark, on the high tide, but on the rare occasion you may come across one early in the morning. We urge all our guests to be vigilant during the nesting season because if the turtles are frightened in any way they may abort the nesting process.

RENOVATED REEF UNITS

We are very excited to unveil three (3) newly renovated Reef Units at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, I'm sure you will agree that they look awesome! We will be continuing the renovations over the next 18 months replacing the roof, adding external cladding and refurbishing the interior of the rooms including new bathroom fittings and soft furnishings (pictured is one of our Reef Units that only has a queen bed, the majority of Reef Units have a queen bed and bunk beds).

Please note that there will be minor noise disruptions during the following dates:
12-25 March, 7-28 June & 2-20 September 2019

MASTER REEF GUIDES

Lady Elliot Island was the location of the field school component for the first intake of the Master Reef Guides training. Our Managing Director Peter and Activities Supervisor Jess completed the training.
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority conducted training for Master Reef Guides to be recognised as the world’s leading reef guides, interpreters and story tellers sharing the wonders of the reef through engaging, entertaining and educational experiences that exceed visitor expectations. The program will be officially launched next year when the participants graduate.

GLOBAL ECO ASIA-PACIFIC TOURISM CONFERENCE
