SAY HELLO TO OUR NEWEST MASTER REEF GUIDE, JOSH!

Josh joined our Lady Elliot Island Team back in November 2020 and brings with him an extensive knowledge of the Great Barrier Reef having worked in the Whitsundays region aboard the Portland Roads fleet. Josh's entire world focuses on the ocean, exploring the wonders of the Reef since he was a child. 

During his career, he has encouraged operators to drop plastic water bottles (2015), disallow plastic bags (2016), move to non-toxic cleaning products, encourage guests to recycle, reuse leftover product, and installed ‘sea clean up tubs’ to boats he has worked on in the past to encourage guests to bring back more than what they take ashore. 

We are excited to have Josh as part of our Activities Team, joining our existing Master Reef Guides; Jessica Blackmore and Jacinta Shackleton. 

Master Reef Guides are the world’s leading reef guides, interpreters, and storytellers sharing the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

These reef ambassadors can provide up to date information on the Reef, share stories of the magical World Heritage Area and explain what you can do to make a difference.

SOLAR HOT WATER 

In an effort to continue our renewable energy journey, our Team has recently installed 16 solar hot water units for our eco-resort rooms in collaboration with Array Energy.

Previous to this installation the resort rooms used to run off gas hot water. This particular system designed by Array Energy is an innovative, high quality solar hot water system. Unlike typical thermal systems which collect heat from the sun, it is up to 30% more efficient as it is a PV system. Instead of collecting heat from the sun, it collects energy to achieve its high efficiency. 

The installation of the solar hot water was supported by the Queensland Government's Rejuvenation Fund.
