Reflecting upon 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, we're taking a moment to reflect on an incredible year.

First and foremost, we want to thank our amazing team! Their dedication to creating unforgettable Great Barrier Reef experiences while protecting our precious island home is what makes the magic happen every single day.

2025 has been a year of wonderful milestones and achievements at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort. Here are just a few highlights:

💫 Lonely Planet named Lady Elliot Island the BEST place in the world to snorkel!

💫 20 Years as Island Custodians – We celebrated two decades of sustainable tourism, education, and conservation on this precious coral cay and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

💫 Our team continue to inspire the next generation of marine stewards and hosted 60 education groups this year.

💫 We continued to support research groups Leaf to Reef and Project Manta by encouraging our guests to share manta ray sightings and images. Nearly 1,300 individual manta rays have been recorded in the waters surrounding the island!

💫 We're proud to continue our large-scale revegetation program, with over 80 volunteers helping us plant over 2,806 plants across the island this year in partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

💫  In addition to continued resort maintenance and improvements, we completed a refit on our two vessels Reef Lady and Elliot One and replaced the Dining Room and Education Centre roof.

We can't wait to welcome you back to Lady Elliot Island in 2026!

Together, we'll create new memories and continue our shared commitment to protecting this precious coral cay.

Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy and Happy New Year!

With warm wishes from Peter Gash, the Gash Family, and the entire Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort team

Island Update

Lady Elliot Island is buzzing with summer wildlife activity, with almost 70 confirmed turtle nests (mostly green sea turtles) and the first hatchlings are expected to emerge on Boxing Day. Divers were treated to an exciting sighting of a hammerhead shark off the island’s eastern side earlier this month, while sea hares have been gathering and mating during low tide.

Across the island, thousands of migratory seabirds are nesting, and their fluffy chicks are growing stronger by the day, creating a lively and heart‑warming scene for guests and staff alike.
